  Photography Recommendations / Industry Advice

You should have 3 photos.

The following information describes what the photographs should look like, how you should appear in the photographs and where you can have the photographs taken.

Composition:
1. A close-up face shot (or Headshot): your portrait, your face should fill most of the photo.
2. A three quarters to the waist up.
3. A full-length picture with tight/form fitting clothes that define your body shape.

Style:

* Light make up or no make up.
* A simple hair style.
* Preferably no smile in at least two out of three pictures.
* No accessories like hats, glasses or anything that will distract from seeing you.
* Be alone in the picture.
* Make sure the photos are not blurry, we need to be able to see you well.

Techniques: You can have the pictures shot either indoors (with a flash), or outdoors (natural light is great) but whichever you choose, make sure the photographs are neither overexposed nor too dark. The lighting should be evenly lit to reveal details like bone structure and skin quality. Extreme shadows or highlights can hide features that scouts need to properly evaluate you.
Note that shooting in direct (mid-day) sun can be tricky; you can often get the best results by shooting in the morning or late afternoons.

The best background is a white or neutral wall.
Otherwise, keep it uncluttered.
The eye should be drawn to you, not the puppy in your arms or the girlfriend holding your hand!

Photographers:
Professional Photographers are excellent and many times provide stylists, hair and makeup, however, they can be costly. We usually recommend that newcomers go to their local department stores' Portrait Studio and pay for 3 sittings.
Most will accommodate your request and may provide the photos on a floppy disk or CD that you can then email (or upload) directly to us.
National chain stores have very competitive pricing that can range from £10 to £50 for all three sittings and the floppy disk or CD - just remember you do not need prints at this time and you can always go back and ask for prints later.

Keep in mind that very few national chain stores can provide full-length or body shots, when using these services we recommend choosing 2 three-quarter or one headshot where you are smiling and one head shot where you are not.
